Never too old

September 7, 2010 - Angelina Dickson

Over the weekend I discovered something.. You are never too old to participate in silly things that result in laughter and sometimes injury.

Friday, following Bible study at my house, I took my friend back to her house in Follansbee. Upon arriving at her house, she informs me she wants to go to another one of her friend's house and she intended to ride her bicycle at about 10:30 p.m. across town.

Now, mind you she and I are 24 years old and have been best friends for nearly 15 years.

She asks me a question. I agree... I am under the impression that she wants me to give her a ride over to her friend's house and allow her to bring her bike along so that she has a ride home. I realize that my thought process seems ridiculous but I thought she wanted to sit in the passenger seat and hold her bike beside the car out the window because it wouldn't fit in the trunk, based on her description of what she wanted to do.

That was not the case. She wanted to ride her bike and hold on to the car while riding her bike as I drove the car. She's my best friend.. so of course I agree to it and say to myself "what could it hurt?"

Everything goes fine.. at first. We do a little test drive in the alley behind her house. We cross Main Street and go up the hill on a street that I can't remember the name of. She struggled a little to maintain control of the bike as I tried slowly to go up this hill. We get to a point near the top of the hill and she waves to some people sitting on their porch looking at us like we are crazy. Shortly after that I hear "STOP THE CAR!"

She fell and bruised her arm and messed up her bike a little. She claims the bag of Buffalo Ranch Doritos stuffed in another bag she was carrying over her shoulder "saved her life" and broke her fall.

Just goes to show you that no matter how old you are, how smart you think you are, what your station in life is that you can still somehow manage to do something stupid that ends up being a great story to tell later.
