Preparing for rain

Mike Mathison - Sports Editor

Mike Mathison

"What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut." - Revelation 3: 7-8 This is also from the movie, Facing The Giants, which I recommend everyone to watch ... and more than once. I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1983 with a bachelor of science degree in journalism. I was the sports editor of the Santa Maria Times when I received a phone call on Mother's Day in 1985 telling me I had to get home (a five hour drive) because my mom, dying of cancer, was going rather quickly. My world changed. I eventually entered the golf business, became a PGA Professional in 1993, and moved to Steubenville in 2001 with my wife and two children. A door was open to return to my roots, writing, and I stepped through it in October, 2005. I became a writer, in large part, due to an english teacher I had when I was a sophomore at Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, Ca. So, thank you, Mrs. Roberta Jordan.
