Remaining classmates attend 70th reunion
Fifteen members gathered to celebrate the Weir High School Class of 1939’s 70th reunion on June 27 in the private dining room of Gio’s Restaurant. Thirteen guests also attended the luncheon social. Reunion Chairman Goldie Almason Baly gave the welcome. In the absence of class valedictorian and May Queen because of illness, Dorothy Pilette Sobolak, the invocation was given by Jeanette Koper Czapla. Tribute was paid to Class President Eva Rabban Lodge who died Sept. 29, 2009 and to all 101 departed class members by Dominic Schell. The memorial prayer read was written by the later Norman Vincent Peale. Baly reviewed the accomplishments of Dr. Ted Borek who was a career Army officer, college professor, and friend, who was buried in Arlington Cemetery in 2003, and also of the career of acclaimed artist Dr. Virgil Cantini, University of Pittsburgh professor who died May 2.
