Workshop planned to discuss parking lots
Weirton City Council is planning to hold a workshop meeting with representatives of CHANGE, Inc. to discuss an agreement and come to a resolution on the issue of the three parking lots next to the community organization’s 3136 West St. location. Council unanimously voted last Monday to withdraw an agreement members approved in July to lease the three parking lots for a total of $3 per year through June 2014. Councilman George Ash said he introduced the legislation because CHANGE, Inc. officials never completed the arrangement by signing the lease. ‘‘It just snowballed into more than what was originally agreed to,’’ said Ash. City Manager Gary DuFour said the agency wanted to charge surrounding businesses a yearly $25 per space fee to use the lot and to have its liability and maintenance responsibilities defined more clearly. ‘‘These are issues they brought up after the fact,’’ the city manager note.
