Big Red tops Huskies; Edison is next
STEUBENVILLE — It didn’t come as swift or as clean as Big Red coach Fred Heatherington would have liked, but after six-and-a-half innings of action against the Harrison Central Huskies, Steubenville got what it came to Vaccaro Field looking for — another game.
The Red rolled on to the Division II sectional co-final with a 9-4 final over the Huskies, Tuesday night. Steubenville had Harrison on the ropes early, but couldn’t deliver the knockout punch needed to shorten the game.
“We won the right to play again and that’s the important thing,” Heatherington said. “That’s what it’s about, the chance to play another game.”
In the end, it was too much too soon from Big Red and too little too late from Harrison that led to the Huskies’ demise. By the end of the second inning, Big Red led, 7-0, and had peppered the field with nine hits. Harrison Central’s biggest offensive production of the game came with three runs in the seventh inning.
