Bears' state title quest is over
CHARLESTON — It wasn’t much of a run. But, the timing could not have been better. Tolsia went a 6-0 spurt late in the first half to turn a 16-15 lead into a 22-15 advantage at halftime and rode it to a 40-30 victory over Oak Glen in the West Virginia Class AA State Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday at the Charleston Civic Center. “We got a a couple of transition baskets there that we hadn’t been getting in the first half,” said Tolsia coach Ric Morrone. “We like to score early in possessions and they took that away from us for the most part in the first half. “Kara (Pollinger) made a couple of nice passes and we actually finished. “It was big. To get that lead to seven going into halftime is a lot different than either being behind, even or ahead by one or two.” The Rebels (20-6) held the Golden bears (16-9) to 19 percent shooting in each half (5-for-26) and to long sessions in each quarter without a point. Oak Glen went: ¯ 5:17 in the first quarter with two points.
