Weirton Daily Times getting ready to mark its 80th birthday in June
In June, The Weirton Daily Times, your hometown newspaper, will observe its 80th birthday. And, although it is our birthday, it is more of a reflection and celebration of Weirton, its businesses and people, and its long and proud history. To celebrate this occasion for our newspaper, we will be publishing four special sections during each week of June, and we need your help.
History buffs and residents of the area who have old historical photographs of special events, former stores, the city, public observances, etc., are being asked to bring them in to The Weirton Daily Times office at 114 Lee Avenue for someone to copy and return to you.
Please provide information about each photo with identifications if possible, to run with the photo.
The four special sections will be on: the history; how we lived 80 years ago (what we bought, drove, did for relaxation, recreation and education and good health); the people and faces who graced our city over the past 80 years; and major events in our history, such as Weirton Steel’s ESOP, John F. Kennedy’s visit here, Bill Clinton’s stop here, etc.
We need to have these photos turned in to us as soon as possible, with a final deadline of June 1.
Also, if you have a unique, special memory you’d like to share of days gone by, please let us know, we may feature it in our special section.
