FUS men lose in overtime

October 6, 2008

STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's soccer lost to conference-foe Penn State Altoona, 3-2 in overtime on Friday at home. The Barons are 6-6-1 overall and 2-3 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

Down 2-0 midway through the first half, the Barons' Thomas Allen scored on a header from Steve Duran for a 2-1 halftime deficit. FUS evened the score on a goal from Ryan Keogler 15 minutes into the second half.

Penn State Altoona's Geremy Graham scored two minutes into overtime for the win.

"We battled hard and showed great spirit. We almost pulled it out," said Barons coach Antonio Soave. "We just showed wonderful resilience. I think we are a great witness to keep going despite the odds. Today what we did well was push up the ball in the midfield. We played with great conviction and never gave up and that has been the story of our season. Never give up. We got great play from Steve, Ryan and Jamie (Cleaton). But we all played with great faith."

The Barons host conference foe Penn State Behrend at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
