With the economy in a rut, the Weirton Transit Corp. is raking in the best business it's seen in years.

Transit Manager Becki Stout reported the revenue has been above $3,000 for the last seven to eight months and above $4,000 over the past three months.

"Usually we've seen numbers under $3,000," said Stout.

She added that the revenue has been that high with having one less driver and one less shift.

"What a change," said Board member Nancy Kowalski.

"The better the numbers, the more it's being used, the better service Weirton is getting," said Board member Walter Angelini.

Stout stated they are still paying high prices for diesel.

She informed members that the city buys gasoline in bulk and the tanks have not run down yet forcing city vehicles to pay the price of the gas when it was purchased.

"We're hoping that will even out soon," said Stout.

She said that even though they are still struggling with the gas prices, there has been an increase in donations so there are no major concerns at this time.

The Weirton Transit Corp. will also offer its annual Black Friday free rides again this year.

Anyone wishing to ride the bus on Black Friday is encouraged to call the Weirton Transit Corp. at least 24 hours in advance at (304) 797-8597.
