Oak Glen drama students present Christmas play

The Oak Glen High School Drama Department will present "Once Upon A Santa Claus" by Sylvia Asby at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday in the Little Theatre at the high school.

Tickets are available at the door and cost $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for students.

The public is invited to see this family-themed story of Santa Claus, his life and times.

Library offers tax law lecture

The Mary H. Weir Public Library will be hosting a lecture at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. A representative from H & R Block will be discussing the Earned Income Tax Credit and other issues concerning new tax laws.

A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

This event is free and open to the public.

Reservations remain for D.C. bus

Bus reservations are at a premium for the motorcade to Washington, D.C. for people to attend the inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama. There are several busses departing from the Tri-State Area.

The Dunbar Recreation Center is sponsoring a bus to Washington, D.C. departing at midnight for the historical festivities. There are a few seats still available.

Those interested in participating in this day trip should contact Clemmie Frierson at (304) 797-1591 or (304) 914-6066. All seats are $60, and the trip is open to the public.

WGH/WMC?retirees plan Christmas party

Forty-one retirees of the Weirton General and Weirton Medical Center met for their fall luncheon meeting to plan the upcoming Christmas party scheduled for noon on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Joyce Barnhart, acting president, welcomed members and introduced two new members, Sheila Orlando and Mary Ann Ciccallella. Devotions were led by Donna Karas.

It was decided unanimously to hold a Christmas breakfast brunch at the Serbian American Cultural Center. In lieu of the usual gift exchange, members voted to bring non-perishable food or personal items. These will be donated to the Weirton Community Bread Basket. Each member will also provide one half dozen cookies which will be served as the dessert for the luncheon. Musical entertainment will also be a part of the party.

A financial report was given by Judy Tate. Tate informed the membership that all deposit money for the AAA?trip has been returned. Theresa Dodson reported on membership status and reminded attendees that all current paid-up members will receive a discounted price for their Christmas luncheon. A?Sunshine report was given by Karas; two get-well cards have been sent. Karas requested notification of any member who is in need of a Sunshine card.

The poem, "October Days" by Beverly J. Anderson was read followed by some "Laugh Line" excerpts. Nancy Reyer read "Questions," comical inquiries that have no answers.

Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary member, Jeannie Duffy, thanked members for their past support and reported a pre-Thanksgiving jewelry sale was scheduled at the hospital.

The 50/50 raffle was won by Helen Rohal.

'Holiday Blues Bash' set for Dec. 6

The Serbian American Cultural Center announces its "Holiday Blues Bash" from 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the center located at 1000 Colliers Way in Weirton.

The evening of music will feature the talents of:

= DJ?"Chico," 6 to 7 p.m.

= Brett Cain, 7 to 8 p.m.

= Pat Heiserman, 8 to 9 p.m.

= Jill West and Blues Attack, 9 p.m. to midnight

Cost is $10 per person, with a cash bar and food available for purchase. Reserve a table for eight by advance purchase only.

A portion of the event's proceeds will be donated to The Salvation Army. Tickets are available at SACC, Hair We Are Styling Salon and by calling (304) 224-1519 or (304) 723-7372.

Unity group had many activities

The Unity Apartment Tenants Group raised funds through a bake sale for a "Shop with a Cop" program and held a covered dish dinner in October.

The group also decorated the multi-purpose room with Halloween decorations and served a birthday cake to everyone celebrating their birthdays that month.

In addition to its monthly covered dish dinners, the group holds bingo each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and a coffee social hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is planning an exercise class.

Its leaders are: Wilma Brooke, president; Loretta Rogers, vice president; Vivian Ellis, secretary; Norma Johnson, treasurer; and Martha Augustine, reporter.

Bread recipes offered at library

A Dec. 6 program at the Brooke County Public Library will help make holiday entertaining easy with recipes for a variety of breads and spreads
