Serapere entertains Weir-Cove AARP

Bettie Williamson, president of Weir-Cove AARP?No. 3846, welcomed 107 members to the November meeting under the program "Divided We Fail?(DWF); Together we can do anything."

This month members celebrated Veteran's Day and Veterans of all wars, Thanksgiving, autumn foliage and friends.

Meeting at Undo's, Joann Bugin gave the invocation reading, "Help Me to Remember"?and a Veteran's Day writing, "Freedom Is Not Free." She shared a lyrical story, "The Pastor and Old Jim's Visits with Jesus." This was followed by prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of "God Bless America."

Williamson welcomed Frieda Courtney, guest of Billy Moss, and Enola Romanelli and Marian Bowen, guests of Regina Truax.

Members ate turkey with dressing, roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravies, cranberry sauce, salad, and pumpkin pie.

Carol Irvine introduced Coz Serapere of Beaver Falls, Pa. He headlined at the Sands in Las Vegas and as a youngster he toured with his father in the Pittsburgh area.

Serapere shared a tribute to the hits of Dean Martin and currently appears at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort on Sundays.

Irvine announced that Paul Grant will entertain in December.

The secretary's report by Betty Conley was read and approved. Midge Green reviewed the treasurer's report which will be filed for audit.

Sunshine Chair Mary Rose Spano sent get-well cards to John Miklos, Frank Scarfo, Edna Harrison and Joann Fell. Sympathies were sent to Frank Fazio on the passing of his wife, Wanda, a long-time member.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Louella Robinson, James Herman, Marge Burskey, Jean Grimm, Jay Householder and Frank Scarfo. "Happy Anniversary" was sung to Milt and Eva Fabianich, 61 years; Mike and Mary Hvizdak, 61 years; and Jay and Mary Householder, 57 years.

Truax reported on trips and tours: Dec. 12, "Doo Wop," Mellon Arena, show and transportation, $60. Call Truax at (304) 723-0419 for information.

December's menu will feature wedding soup, salad, roast pork with gravy, baked orange roughy with lemon, twice-baked potatoes, baby carrots and cherry tarts.

Membership Chair Katy Rosohac reported three new members: Courtney, Romanelli and Bowen. Dues must by in by Dec. 31.

The club has collected $34,781 in pennies for the Greater Weirton Senior Center's elevator fund. Fabianich continues to collect used eyeglasses, cases and hearing aids.

Joann Bugin reported on the "Day of Service" at the Weirton Geriatric Complex. The movie "Cheaper by the Dozen" was shown and patients were served popcorn, cookies and punch.

Truax thanked callers Loretta Nicholas, Barbara Visnic, Patsy Verlest and Helen Ciarrocchi for their dedicated service.

The nominating committee, headed by Fabianich and Nicholas, Elma Pandelios, and George and Virginia Kucan presented the slate of officers for 2009. John Pandelios installed President Bettie Williamson, Vice-President Carol Irvine, Secretary Betty Conley, and Treasurer Midge Green; and board members Fabianich, Beverly Jennings and Loretta Nicholas,1 year; Kathryn Hardsouk, John Pandelios and Regina Truax, 2 years; and Chuck Bugin, Barbara Visnic and Louise Herman, 3 years.

Appointed assistant secretary was Penny Mourat and assistant treasurers were Elma Pandelios and Rosohac.

November prize winners were: Free dinners, Joyce Rzepka and Mary Hvizdak; 50/50 drawing, Ann Whitehead Restanio and Mary Gubbetti; Christmas placemats and towel, Gubetti; and quilt, Burskey.

Door prizes of tins of popcorn went to Hvizdak, Louise Mastrantoni, Moss, Vivian Gorey, Iona and Terry McCullough,Fabianich, Dolores Proakis and Shirley Scherino.

The next executive board meets Tuesday and the next regular meeting is Dec. 8.

The meeting adjourned after the benediction by Bugin.
