Oak Glen Class of 2009 graduates ThursdayMay 27, 2009NEW CUMBERLAND - The graduating class of Oak Glen High School will hold commencement ceremonies at 7 p.m. Thursday at the high school fieldhouse. Eleven students are among the top of the Class of 2009, including valedictorians Rebecca Juszczak and Eric Stipec. Claire Juszczak is this year's salutatorian. Others in the top 10 include Anna Plummer, Troy Eckleberry, Michelle McDonald, Erin Shuman, Kiley Radeski, Kyrsten Whittaker, Kathleen Paris and Jamie Pierce. Rebecca Juszczak is the daughter of Janice and Frank Juszczak of Chester. She was a member of the foreign language club for four years, culture club for four years, National Honor Society for two years, concert band for four years and pep band for one year. She participated in tennis for three years, Business Symposium for one year, Rhododendron Girls State for one year, Meals on Wheels, made Easter baskets and Christmas stockings for needy children and helped make candy for church. Following graduation, Juszczak plans to attend West Liberty University and major in accounting. Stipec is the son of Kim and Tim Stipec of Chester. He was a member of the National Honor Society for two years, culture club for one year, yearbook club for one year, Business Symposium for one year, played football for four years, participated in basketball for two years and ran track for two years. He was a volunteer for youth basketball as well. Following high school, he plans to attend West Virginia University and major in nursing. Claire Juszczak is the daughter of Judy and Robert Juszczak of Chester. She was a member of the National Honor Society for two years, foreign language club for four years, culture club for four years, concert band for four years and Literary Magazine for two years. Juszczak participated in the Governor's Honors Academy, is a volunteer at the Carnegie Public Library and is a volunteer at church. Following high school, Juszczak plans to attend WLU and major in elementary education. Plummer is the daughter of Gloria and Ronald Plummer of Chester. She was a member of the Literary Magazine for two years, National Honor Society for two years, was in theater for four years, jazz band for two years and the West Virginia Young Writer's Contest for two years. She also volunteers at Oak Glen Middle School and Allison Elementary School at school functions, is active in the Newell First Church of the Nazarene and assists with Vacation Bible School and plays the piano. Following high school, Plummer plans to attend WVU and major in medical technology. Eckleberry is the son of Tammy and Dan Eckleberry of Chester. He was a member of the culture club for one year, wrestled for four years, played baseball for four years and played golf for three years and soccer for one year. He also participated in Legion baseball. Upon graduation, Eckleberry plans to attend the University of Tennessee and major in nuclear engineering. McDonald is the daughter of Anita and Scott McDonald of New Cumberland. She was a member of the pep club for one year, National Honor Society for two years, played volleyball for four years and ran track for two years. She is a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Campfire and has been on mission trips with Point Pleasant Church. She plans to attend Marshall Community and Technical College and major in physical therapy. Shuman is the daughter of Tammy and Steve Shuman of Chester. She was a member of Target Ambassadors for one year, Key Club for four years, pep club for four years, National Honor Society for two years and played volleyball for one year and softball for four years. She participated in the Youth Leadership Weirton Chamber of Commerce and received honorable mention, Future Leader and Lion's Scholars of the Month awards. She volunteers with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kids Triathalon, Living the Dream project and Project Bundle Up. Shuman plans to attend Washington and Jefferson College and major in education. Radeski is the daughter of Rhonda and Stanley Radeski of New Cumberland. She was a member of the Key Club for four years and pep club for two years and played soccer for four years and ran track for two years. She also was a member of the OVAC All-Star Soccer game. She participates in church, teen night, Campfire and mission trips. Upon graduation, Radeski plans to attend Fairmont State University and major in pre-secondary education. Whittaker is the daughter of Jeanean and George Whittaker of Chester. She was a member of the National Honor Society for two years, played volleyball for three years, softball for one year and basketball for one year and ran track for two years. Whittaker plans to attend WVU and major in fashion merchandising. Paris is the daughter of Leonida Paris of Chester. She was a member of the National Honor Society for two years, pep club for two years, culture club for one year, yearbook club for one year and played basketball for four years and ran track and cross country for one year. She was a member of the homecoming court for two years, prom court for one year, the newspaper staff for one year and was class president for three years. Paris was a National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine nominee, participated in the Business Symposium, the 2008 OVAC All-Conference Academic Team, the 2009 Sectional and Regional Basketball Championship and the 2009 OVAC All-Conference AAA Honorable Mention Basketball team. She also volunteers as a camp counselor for three basketball camps and is participating in the 2009 Queen of Queens OVAC competition. She also is a Lion's Club Scholar of the Month. She plans to attend WVU and major in nursing. Pierce is the daughter of Nona and Allen Katzenmeyer. She was a member of the National Honor Society for two years, pep club for four years, history club for four years, theater for four years, chorus for two years and Girls State for one year. She played basketball for three years, track for two years, soccer for three years. Pierce also was a coach for children's basketball and music therapy at Fox's Nursing Home. She plans to major in biology/pre-medicine at WVU.
