Weirton Reunion set for Aug. 14

The Seventh Weirton Reunion, including the communities of Weir Avenue, North Weirton and Dunbar Alumni, will be held on Aug. 14 and Aug. 15.

A Get-Acquainted Social at the Masonic Hall on Weir Avenue and Block Party on Vermont and Weir Avenue will begin at 5 p.m. on Aug. 14.

An "Open Day on the Block" at Vermont and Weir Avenue with vendors and socializing will begin at 11 a.m. on Aug. 15.

There is a $20 vendor's fee for clean-up.

If you would like to be a vendor, contact Earlene Jones at (304)748-7834. Deadline is July 14th.

On Saturday evening, a Dinner Dance will be held at the Serbian-American Cultural Center with the social hour at 6 to 7 p.m.; program from 7 to 7:30 p.m., and dinner buffet at 7:30 p.m.

The cost for the entire weekend is $40.00. T-shirts are available for $12.

Weekly 'Chicken Blasts' continue

The spring and summer weekly "Chicken Blasts" continue on Wednesdays at the Serbian Picnic Grounds on Kings Creek Road in Weirton. The weekly picnics are sponsored by the Men's Club of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church.

To order a wood-roasted chicken, call (304)?748-9866 beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday. This telephone number and method will be the ONLY way to reserve a chicken, as no other reservations will be accepted. Each chicken costs $6.

'Miles Long' yard sale scheduled

PARIS - Devils Den Road residents will host the annual "miles-long" community yard sale, beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Housewares, baby items, furniture, clothing, toys and "buy one, get one free" bargains. Homemade desserts also will be

Alzheimer's talk at senior center

On Wednesday the Carriage Inn of Cadiz will present a program on Alzheimer's disease at the Greater Weirton Christian Center. The lecture will begin at 11 a.m.

Following the presentation, the Carriage Inn will provide pizza for those in attendance. Reservations can be made by calling (304)?748-3490.

This program should be of interest to those caring for a person with this disease and for others just interested in learning about Alzheimer's.

Pryor named to Dean's List

PHILIPPI, WV - Alderson-Broaddus College has announced its Dean's List for the Spring 2009 semester. Among those students who have achieved this academic honor include Kristen R. Pryor, a Business Administration major from New Cumberland.

Junior Dons football sign-up set

The Weirton Madonna Junior Don Football Team will hold sign-ups and "Meet the Coaches" at the Weirton Madonna High School wrestling room, behind the school on the following dates:

  • July 21, 5:30 to 6 p.m., for students entering the 7th or 8th grade and attending St. Joseph or St. Paul Grade School.
  • July 23, 5 to 6 p.m., for students entering the 4th, 5th or 6th grade and attending St. Joseph or St. Paul Grade School.
