Corps Auxiliary plans summer family picnic
The regular monthly meeting of the Tri-State Marine Corps Auxiliary was held on June 8 at the Weirton Knights of Columbus Hall.
President Joan Spano called the meeting to order and presided over the business session.
Spano welcomed past members, former Chaplain Rose Murray, Cheryl Griffinberg, and Viola Gvoyich and her daughter, Debby George. She also welcomed Mahala Baker, granddaughter to Chaplain Mary Ann Smith.
Smith gave the invocation and led a special prayer for Dan Lyons, and Mark and Karen Durbin and family on the death of their daughter, Tanela.
Darlene Kemp led the ladies in the Pledge of Allegiance and Vice-President Shirley Brecht took roll call. Marcy Spano read the minutes from the May meeting which were approved as read.
Treasurer Maxine Ragan gave the financial report. The books were audited on June 22.
Sunshine Chairperson Mary Ann Elliott read a thank you from Don and Kay Toothman. She sent get-well cards to Paul Griffenberg, Sal Pate, Donald Perkins, Antoinelli Ferelli, Henry Portocarrero, Dan Lyons and George Gvoyich. A sympathy card was sent to Ken and Beverly Kromer on the death of Beverly's father, Delbert Mason.
Brecht gave a brief report on the Christmas Party that will be held on Dec. 8 at Dee Jay's Ribs &?Grille.
Spano thanked Brecht for placing a wreath at the Veteran's Memorial during the Memorial Day Service.
The Auxiliary sent its Adopted Veteran Dan Jones, a member of the Marine Corps Club, a leather wallet and a key chain with the Marine emblem for Father's Day.
The special prize for the evening was won by Elliott. June birthday wishes were extended to Elliott and Becky Johnson.
The annual family picnic will be held at noon on July 12 at Get-Togethers on Kings Creek. Members are asked to bring in door prizes and items for the farmer's table.
The Auxiliary holds its annual luncheon today at Dee Jay's and the next meeting will be July 13.
