GILLIAM, Charlene Darcel, 56, of Weirton W.Va., died July 12, 2009.
She was born April 11, 1953, daughter of Jessie and Thelma Simmons Gilliam, both deceased.
Charlene was a graduate of Weir High School and West Liberty State College; was employed by Weirton Steel Company and Macy’s Department Store; currently employed at Coventry Healthcare, Inc.
She was a member of St. Peter’s AME Church in Weirton, where she served on Pastor’s Aid, Missionary, assistant superintendent and teacher in Sunday School, clerk, Steward Board, Usher, Finance Committee, YPD President and in numerous other positions when needed; past president Business and Professional Women’s Club; Regional and State Executive Board levels. Served Weirton Chamber of Commerce-Leadership Weirton. City of Weirton Planning Action Council and Economic Development Committee. Friend of West Virginia Northern Community College. Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Alumnae Chapter, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Charter member of Weir Avenue Reunion Committee
Surviving are her son, Jason Clausell of Weirton; sisters, Mrs. Jessica (Larry) Taylor, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Michele Gilliam of Washington, D.C., Barbara Gilliam of Inglewood, Calif., Kim Jones, Weirton; brothers, Michael (Beth) Gilliam of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Kevin Gilliam of Weirton; nieces Lindsay and Lauren Taylor of Lake Jackson, Texas, Mahogany Luke of Steubenville, Ohio, Janelle Jones of Weirton, great-niece, Cassidy Moody of Carson, Calif.; nephews, Charles Moody II, of Carson Calif., Cameron Jones of Wintersville, Ohio, Justin Jones of Weirton; aunts, Mary Jane Peake, Union, S.C., Mable Rice, of Greenville, S.C., Estelle and Lillie Mae Curenton of Aliquippa, Pa., Mary Lane of Whitmire, S.C.; uncles, Matthew Simmons of Washington, D.C., Raymond Brock, Aliquippa, Pa., and her faithful animal companion, Kobe.
Visitation on Friday, July 17, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. at St. Peter’s AME Church, 1050 county Road, Weirton, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Eddie McDaniel officiating.
