WHEELING — Finding guys who like to hit people in the game of football isn’t a tough challenge normally. And West Virginia head coach Bob Kramer didn’t have much trouble finding his defensive linemen who would bring that attitude to the annual Rudy Mumley Ohio Valley Athletic Conference All-Star Charity Football Classic, July 26 at Wheeling Island Stadium. “We went after our defensive linemen much like we went after our offensive linemen,” Kramer said. “We wanted big, athletic guys who who like to hit.” With the likes of Derrick Rovira (Weir), Jonathan Przelenski (Bishop Donahue), Nick Ohrman (Linsly), Dante Greco (Madonna) and Derek Stahl (Wheeling Park), the Mountaineers’ coaching staff likes what they’ve assembled. “From what we’ve seen of the kids we’re going to use, I really like the way this group could come together,” Kramer said. The players report to training camp Sunday at West Liberty University. DERRICK ROVIRA, Weir — This former Red Rider was a stalwart on the defensive side of the ball for former coach Eric Meek’s squad. The 6-foot-1, 230-pounder logged 110 tackles this past season along with 11 sacks and 17 tackles for loss. He also recovered two fumbles. As a fullback, he ran for 850 yards and 11 touchdowns. For his fine season, he was a first-team all-state defensive player as well as first-team all-OVAC and he received a special achievement award from the Ohio Valley Dapper Dan. He was also a standout on the wrestling mat, finishing third in both the OVAC and West Virginia state tournaments. Away from athletics, Rovira is active in SADD, Chemistry Club and Hi-Y. The son of Dan and Amy Rovira will attend West Liberty University to play football. DANTE GRECO, Weirton Madonna — This two-way lineman had a huge role in the Blue Dons’ run to the Super Six under the guidance of Kramer. The 6-foot-1, 270-pounder had 64 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception he took back for a score. For his fine season, he earned first-team all-state and all-OVAC honors. Away from athletics, Greco is involved in Interact, SADD and the Pep Club. The son of James and Diane Greco will attend West Virginia University. JONATHAN PRZELENSKI, Bishop Donahue — This two-way lineman was a standout for coach John Durdines’ team the past four seasons. The 6-foot-1, 233-pounder saw time at center and tackle on the offensive side of the ball and was a solid defensive tackle. He was an all-state and all-OVAC and received the Donahue Mr. Football Award. Away from athletics, Przelenski was a member of the National Honor Society, received the HOBY Award, took part in JETS, Quiz Bowl and is a Peer Ministry Retreat Leader. The son of Paula and Bart Przelenski will attend West Virginia University. NICK OHRMAN, Linsly — This two-way lineman had a solid season for coach B.J. Depew’s Cadets. The 6-foot-2, 270-pounder recorded 134 tackles and seven sacks this past season. For his efforts, he earned the Stobbs Award, which is presented to the outstanding senior lineman. Along with football, Ohrman was a member of the baseball team. The son of Kelly Ohrman will attend Duquesne. DEREK STAHL, Wheeling Park — This former Patriot made living at the ends of both lines for coach Mark Nardone’s team the past few years. The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder was a tight end and a defensive end for the Patriots en route to earning a pair of letters. He was a first-team all-state defensive player and an all-OVAC choice. Along with football, Stahl was a member of the Patriots’ hockey team and helped it to back-to-back state championships. Away from athletics, Stahl is a member of SADD, the Varsity Athletic Club and the Lacrosse Club. He’s a four-year member of the Park High Honor Roll.
