FunSeekers host annual picnic
The FunSeekers held this year's picnic and meeting at the Aracoma Park in Mingo Junction, Ohio. Members brought their favorite dishes to share for the occasion.
Joan Bugin welcomed everyone.
The picnic planing committee included Sam Dieo, John Balzano, Phil DeStefano, Joann Mulrooney and Elvera Mihalic, all on the kitchen crew, with Regina Truax and Mary Sadler taking care of tickets.
Barbara Whiteman and Velma Cilli awarded table prizes. Games were played with Larry Tomassilli, Dino Rossi, Kitty Orsini and Jim Fulciniti as leaders. Paul Koltz won the special prize.
The Aug. 5 meeting will be at Undo's in the Holiday Inn-Weirton.
'Teddy Bear Tea' set for Wednesday
The Literary Department of the Weirton Woman's Club, a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs of West Virginia, will host the eighth annual "Teddy Bear Tea" on Wednesday at the Mary H. Weir Public Library.
The tea begins at 1 p.m. and is held in the downstairs activity room. Children's Librarian Sandy Reardon will read a children's book and show a video. Jim Tate, "The Magic Man" will perform a magic show and make balloon animals for the children.
June Pulice, chairman of the Literary Department, will host a reception with punch and cookies. Door prizes will be awarded and each child in attendance will receive a teddy bear.
Children up to the age of ten are invited to attend the "Teddy Bear Tea." There is no charge for the program.
This event is sponsored by the Literary Department of the Weirton Woman's Club and the Mary H. Weir Public Library, a United Way member agency. Delores Azzarello is president of the Weirton Woman's Club
Missionary Union shares news
The Women's Missionary Union of the Open Door Baptist Church on state Route 1 in Colliers met on July 7 with eight members present.
Mildred Richter opened the meeting. Pam Holden led the group in prayer. Donna Garrison read the minuts from the Jne meeting and the treasurer's report was given by Richter.
In old business, it was reported that candy bars with Bible verses on the labels were distributed on Father's Day. The bake sale for the mission trip at the Weirton Wal-Mart generated $250.
In new business, the goal for the Ola Cox mission was set at $2,000.
The date for the church picnic will be Aug. 16 at Brooke Hills Park.
The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 at Vito's Restaurant in Follansbee and will include election of officers for the church 2009-2010.
Rosemary Jennings gave devotions from II Corinthians 4:7, "Dependence on God" and another reading from I Corinthians 2:2.
The meeting was adjourned and Jennings served lunch.
