BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - Luanne Hughes is putting out the call for former Burgettstown Middle/High School homecoming queens.
The queens will be feted during the 45th annual Burgettstown Homecoming parade, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 3, and recognized during a special ceremony preceding the 1:30 p.m. kickoff of the homecoming game against Bentworth.
The homecoming parade will begin at Burgettstown Auto Parts and travel along Main Street to Hill Memorial Stadium. The theme is "The Allure of the Jungle."
Hughes said she invited former queens and those who know the whereabouts of former queens to contact her, so they can be included in the festivities.
As in years past, the parade will include floats sponsored by each of the middle/high school classes and by area organizations, churches and fraternal groups. A committee of judges awards first, second and third place to the school-sponsored floats, and separate first, second and third places and cash prizes to community-sponsored floats.
Several groups that participate regularly in the parade are the high school band, cheerleaders and Devilettes, local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, the homecoming court, local fire companies, local police departments, the Burgettstown Area Senior Citizens Center, the American Legion and the Lions football team.
Any church, charitable organization, fraternal organization, youth group, area business or social club that wants to participate in the parade, either by marching or sponsoring a float, is asked to contact Hughes.
The parade committee also is looking for area residents who are willing to drive their convertibles in the parade. Because the former homecoming queens are being invited to participate in this year's parade, more convertibles are needed than ever, said Hughes.
Owners of classic cars are also invited to participate in the event, and Bad Dogs restaurant will be holding a classic car show following the parade.
The homecoming dance will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 3, and tickets are available at the middle/high school.
Parade lineup will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Burgettstown Auto Parts, and additional groups and floats will be accepted up until that time, said Hughes.
For parade information, call Hughes at (412) 818-0180.
