FUS soccer teams lose

BEHREND, Pa. - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's and women's soccer teams fell at Penn State-Behrend on Saturday. The men dropped a 5-1 decision and the women, 2-0.

The men are 7-6 overall and 5-3 in Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference play. The women are 5-8-1, 3-4.

Johnny Herrmann scored for the men.

"We didn't play our game," Barons assistant coach Tommy Lahey said. "We kept pace with them in the first half, and were only down 1-0 at halftime, but we let the game get away from us in the second."

FUS hosts Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.

"We played a hard game," Lady Barons defender Christyn Dupre said of the 2-0 loss. "Penn State-Behrend is a tough team, but we hung with them. We passed very well, we drove it down the field, and we found our open teammates; however, we just couldn't finish. We had some great opportunities, but were just unable to score."

Medaille tops FUS in volleyball

MEDAILLE, Pa. - The Franciscan University of Steubenville volleyball team dropped a 25-17, 25-19, 25-22 decision at Medaille College on Saturday. The Lady Barons fell to 8-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

"We played better and better as this match went on," FUS coach Kelly Herrmann said. "We came out flat in the first game, were competitive in the second, and made a very good showing in the third. When you're playing a difficult team like Medaille, though, you can't afford to fall behind early like we did."

The Lady Barons host Ohio State-Marion at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
