Aiding small business Rotary focus

October 30, 2009 - By ANGELINA DICKSON, Staff writer

The Rotary Club of Weirton received some insight as to the services offered by Suzanne Ferguson and Barbara Schwarck to help small businesses owners, executives and professionals improve their businesses.

Ferguson of Suzanne Ferguson and Associates and Schwarck of Clear Intentions Inc. explained to Rotarians how they each own their own small businesses but decided to join forces to help others with their businesses.

The pair offer small business coaching addressed to assist small businesses in thriving. Ferguson gave some background on herself and Schwarck and let Schwarck discuss the handout presented to each Rotarian.

"What is your most challenging professional goal?" asked Schwarck, noting it was the initial question in the handout.

Schwarck said it is important to begin with setting goals. She said they help individuals focus on the goals that help businesses move forward. She stated success is achieved when you find out what you don't know about yourself and address the issue accordingly.

Schwarck said as private individuals, we know how to change but many people know what they need to do and do not follow through. She said the answer lies within the brain. She said the brain is made up of three parts, intellectual, emotional and survival mode.

"It takes re-wiring our thinking to be proactive instead of reactive in our lives and businesses," she added.

She said the difficulty in making changes lies in something within us not being in alignment. She said if one becomes aligned in their emotional and survival modes with the intellectual mode, goals can be obtained.

Schwarck asked for a volunteer to demonstrate the external muscle test, a test of the strength of the arm when questions are asked and force is applied, which she said would show innate feelings that can be realigned for success. Rotarian Mike Gianni stepped forward to assist with the demonstration.

"If he tells the truth, his arm will be strong and I will not be able to push it down," she said, "but if he's lying, his arm will become weaker."

Schwarck asked several questions pertaining to business and Gianni answered accordinly. Schwarck later showed the room how to make the realignment to address unconscious mind.

Ferguson said they also address the fundamentals of business and work with adults, children, businessmen and women, and many others.
