The Fort Steuben Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met on Nov. 14 at Undo's in Weirton with Regent Pamela Lilly presiding. Opening ceremonies were led by Karen Blanc, Elizabeth King, Mary Webster and Bonny Slemmer.
Nancy Valles introduced the guest speaker, Vickie Joseph. Joseph spoke on being prepared and thinking ahead concerning women's issues.
Lilly dispensed with reading the September minutes.
The treasurer's report was given by Valles. Donations were sent to DAR-supported schools, veterans and other commitments made by the National Society. Interest payments where added to the Scholarship fund. The report was filed for audit.
The Audit Committee examined the financial records; the records are in order.
The President General of the NSDAR Linda Gist Calvin's message was read by Lilly. She announced that Blanc will represent the chapter, along with the George Washington Chapter of the SAR, at the wreath- laying ceremony at Allegheny Cemetery.
Susan Guy informed all of the OGS project on Revolutionary War Patriots of Ohio. Susanne Curn-Escobar was able to give information on Patriot John C Fischer, her ancestor.
The Indian Minutes were read by Lorna Young, who also advised the chapter that December is Native History Month in which she requested proclamations from the Mayors of Steubenville and Weirton.
The National Defender report was read by Carol Skerbetz.
Members Carrie Gaskins, and Carol and Jennifer Donohue were presented Cameo Society certificates.
Members who visited the Christopher Columbus replica ships at the marina shared their experiences.
Valles announced the State Conference will honor chapter member veterans.
Gaskins continues to collect labels and box tops to send to schools.
Prospective members Bella Wilson and Tessa Peters were introduced.

The next meeting will be Dec. 12, at the Holiday Inn-Weirton; the annual "Christmas in Song" with a "Menagerie Sale."
