NEW MANCHESTER - The Hancock County Sheriff's Department has released the name of a woman who died in a one-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon.
Mary Masure, 81, of Ross Road in New Cumberland, reportedly was traveling west along Hardin Run Road near the state line by Frankford Road at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday. According to sheriff's department officials, while negotiating a slight turn in the road, the car went onto the shoulder of the road, then crossed to the other side of the road, went off the roadway, and collided with a tree.
According to a release from the sheriff's department, the airbags deployed in the accident and Masure was wearing her seat belt at the time. There was no evidence any other vehicles were involved in the accident.
"When my guys arrived, she had a faint pulse and the deputies on the scene attempted to perform CPR," Hancock County Sheriff Mike White said Wednesday, adding that a crew from New Cumberland Ambulance took over the resuscitation attempt when they arrived a few moments later.
The ambulance transported Masure to Weirton Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The New Manchester Volunteer Fire Department was also on the scene.
The sheriff's department is investigating the accident further, as there was no indication that Masure's death was caused by the collision and no evidence that she activated the vehicle's brakes before the accident.
As of Thursday there was no indication that drugs or alcohol had played a role in the collision.
