Greenbrier Bridge project near completion

March 10, 2010
By ANGELINA DICKSON, Staff writer

Although winter weather conditions proved to be a pain for most, James White Construction employees worked continuously through snowy conditions in order to complete the Greenbrier Bridge replacement project.

James White Construction was awarded the contract in the amount of $96,000 along with an $11,000 change order for engineers' specifications for a specially designed guardrail and anchor system for the bridge.

Workers were on scene pouring concrete and setting the final specifications for the completion of the bridge on Tuesday. Public Works Director John Brown stated he hopes to be able to open the bridge sometime next week. He said crews have worked to accommodate residents on Sandy Lane as well as the two businesses located in the area.

"I commend James White Construction for their work through the blizzard," said Brown.

Brown added once the project is complete, the height restrictions will be removed and the weight capacity could exceed 20 tons, making it safe for large vehicles such as garbage trucks and snow plows to cross.
