CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Rescuers think they have found the body of a Kanawha County firefighter swept away while attempting a water rescue in Raleigh County.
Kanawha County fire coordinator C.W. Sigman said Friday that a body was found in Piney Creek, about 4 1/2 miles from where 32-year-old Donald Adkins was last seen on Saturday.
Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department Chief Marty Blankenship said Adkins and another firefighter were inside a rescue boat when it tipped over near the town of Beaver.
A combination of 1 to 3 inches of rain and melting snow resulted in heavy flooding in Raleigh, Greenbrier, Fayette and Mercer counties.
Scores of people have been searching for Adkins' body all week.
