STEUBENVILLE - John C. "Jack" and Marjorie E. Fraser of Steubenville celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary April 13.
They have three sons, Bob of Atlanta, Dr. Jim of Steubenville and Dr. Bruce of Columbus, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Jack and Marge grew up on the same street and met after she joined his church as a teenager. They were married Friday the 13th in 1945, the day after Franklin Delano Roosevelt died. She was a nurse, working at the Naval hospital at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, and Jack was in the Navy, stationed on a destroyer.
They were married in St. James Episcopal Church in downtown Chicago. They said that due to FDR's death, it was "tricky" getting Marge off the base because it was closed. The day after the wedding, Jack returned to duty, and they were separated for the next year. Marge returned to Steubenville and was a nurse in a local hospital. Jack returned and went to work for Ohio Power for the next 42 years.
The couple are residents of the Carriage House, 3106 St. Charles Drive.
