SMITHFIELD - The 50th wedding anniversary for Lamont and Esther McCoy was observed with a dinner at the Gathering Place in Smithfield June 6. The event was hosted by their sons.
The couple was wed June 4, 1960, at the Smithfield Christian Church, with the Rev. Harry Marshall officiating.
McCoy is the son of late Leland and Bessie McCoy of Smithfield, formerly of Calias. He retired from Timet Metals as general superintendent of the hot mill after 43 years.
She is the daughter of the late J. Donald and Marian McHugh of Smithfield and is employed as food editor and a staff columnist for the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times.
He is a member of the Piney Fork American Legion and the Jefferson County Veterans American Legion. She is a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau promotion and education committee, Smithfield Alumni Association newsletter editor, church deaconess and affiliated with the Jefferson and Harrison county 4-H programs.
They are members of the Smithfield Christian Church, where he teaches Sunday school and serves as a deacon. They work with the Lunches with Love program; are members of the Jefferson County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society and serve on the Harrison County Relay for Life committee.
They have three sons: Larry of Wintersville, Jay of Lewis Center and Darin of Plain City. There are five grandchildren.
