Man caught after

going over fence

WINTERSVILLE - A Bellaire man is being held in the Jefferson County jail after a three-hour escape Saturday from the Eastern Ohio Correction Center.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department reported Jason L. Falcone, 26, of Bellaire had been in the minimum security facility since Thursday after being sentenced in Belmont County for failure to comply with the order of a police officer.

Falcone climbed over the fence in the recreation area around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. He was caught by a sheriff's deputy on county Road 43 around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Falcone was being held in the county jail without bond on a pending charge of escape.

Wellsburg man

strikes house

FOLLANSBEE - A Wellsburg man was charged with driving under the influence and striking a fixture after his vehicle veered into a house on Eldersville Road Saturday.

Kenneth L. Zampini, 52, of 2000 Marianna St., was arrested by the Brooke County Sheriff's Department after his vehicle allegedly veered off the road and struck a utility pole and mailbox before striking a house at 2742 Eldersville Road at about 7:52 p.m.

The sheriff's department said the collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle and house, but no one was injured.

According to police reports, Zampini had consumed prescription drugs prior to the accident.

Trustees meeting


MINGO JUNCTION - The Steubenville Township trustees monthly meeting has been rescheduled from Thursday to Wednesday.

Trustee Scott Fabian said a schedule conflict required the change.

The trustees meet at their facility at 25 Smithfield St. on state Route 151.

SBDC workshop

for startups set

STEUBENVILLE - The Small Business Development Center will hold a workshop for new business start-ups Wednesday at the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce offices, 630 Market St., from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

A $20 materials fee will be charged. The center will hold an e-commerce seminar Thursday at the Carroll County District Library in Carrollton from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A $25 registration fee will be charged.

Also on Thursday, a seminar on writing a business plan will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kent State Salem City Center in Salem with a $35 registration fee.
