STEUBENVILLE - Weight Watchers is celebrating the grand opening of the new Hollywood Plaza center site, 324 S. Hollywood Blvd., Sunday through Sept. 25, and the public is invited to visit the center and participate in the free events.

The Weight Watchers program approach focuses on healthy eating and regular physical activity, in order to lose weight at a healthy rate, according to Renee Wnek, local Weight Watchers leader.

Some of the events for the grand opening include a walk-a-thon, in which canned goods will be collected and donated to the Urban Mission; a success stories night, a smoothie demonstration and more. Each of the events will coincide with the regularly scheduled meetings at the center.

Events will begin Tuesday, with the 9:15 a.m. meeting, where members who have reached goal at Weight Watchers will share their journeys on the Weight Watchers program. During the 11 a.m. meeting, there will be light refreshments and a social for the members. At the 7 p.m. meeting, there will be several current Weight Watchers members who will share their stories during a "Success Stories Live" event. During "Success Stories Live," speakers will talk about the goals they have reached, share how much weight they have lost and their best tips for a success on the program.

The grand opening week will continue Wednesday with a Food Find meeting. All who attend are asked to take nutritional information, bags and boxes of the different foods they are eating on their weight-loss journeys, according to Wnek.

"This gives participants a chance to see what other members of Weight Watchers are eating on the program and get some new ideas of foods to add to their grocery carts," she noted.

During the 5:30 p.m. meeting, a personal trainer from Anytime Fitness will talk to the group about how to start a workout routine, along with other tips for getting in shape.

On Thursday, during the 12:15 p.m. meeting, there will be blood pressure screenings by a medical professional for all in attendance. At the 5:30 p.m. meeting, there will be a smoothie demonstration, featuring Weight Watchers smoothies, and all will have a chance to sample the different recipes.

At noon on Friday, a medical professional will speak about diabetes prevention and will be able to answer questions about the disease.

The week's festivities will continue with a weight-loss game at the Saturday meetings, which take place at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The game questions will focus on weight-loss trivia and the Weight Watchers program.

On Sept. 25, there will be a walk-a-thon at 10:15 a.m. at Jim Wood Park. In lieu of collecting money, participants are asked to have friends and family sponsor them with canned goods for each lap they complete. All collected canned goods and nonperishable food items will be donated to the Urban Mission, Wnek said.

The walk is in coordination with Weight Watchers "Lose for Good" campaign. The national "Lose for Good" event began Aug. 28 and continues through Oct. 15, and Weight Watchers will donate money toward helping hunger for each pound the members lose during the campaign.

This is the third-annual "Lose for Good" campaign, and every year Weight Watchers has reached its monetary goal to help battle national and world hunger, according to officials.

All are welcome to participate in the walk, which will conclude the grand opening.

"We are very excited about the grand opening of our new center and our grand opening week," said Wnek. "It will give members a chance to participate in some exciting events and will allow those who aren't members the opportunity to explore our new center and see what we do at Weight Watchers."
