Weirton man arrested in South Carolina

WEIRTON - A Weirton man has been arrested in Conway, S.C. on a warrant issued for robberies committed in the city in November.

Christopher Popovich, 35, of Weirton, is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, pending extradition to Brooke County, where he was indicted for two counts of first-degree robbery.

Popovich allegedly ordered a woman to withdraw money from an automated teller machine while brandishing an object that appeared to the victim to be a weapon on April 21 and allegedly attempted to grab a woman's purse on April 22.

He also was indicted for possession of crack cocaine and conspiring to transport it into the state.

The charges were filed by Weirton Police.
