WEIRTON - The Harv at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort is hosting a barbershop quartet concert on June 16 featuring Acoustix set to benefit the University of Pittsburgh Children's Hospital's spinal research program.

The concert will feature the Studio 4 and the Wheeling - Steubenville Chorus as the opening acts for Acoustix, a world renowned barbershop quartet. The proceeds from the concert will benefit the University of Pittsburgh Children's Hospital's spinal research program.

The concert will be at The Harv at 7 p.m. with an Afterglow Meet and Greet with the performers. Ginier said the group Acoustix has played all over the world but never in West Virginia.

"This is a great honor and we are looking forward to Acoustix coming to the Northern Panhandle to perform for this concert that is supporting a great cause," said event organizer Angie Ginier.

Ginier said this concert is being held in honor of Brett Sweeney, a firefighter/paramedic who can no longer do his duty in saving lives because of a spinal disease. She said as a paramedic herself, it is important to stress spinal health and advance research to save the lives of future generations.

Mountaineer, along with the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitor's Bureau, are the major sponsors for the event thus far.

"We are glad to be able to sponsor such a good cause locally," said Rich House, inside sales manager for Mountaineer. "We're looking forward to hosting the international singing group as well and hope area residents enjoy the show."

In addition, she said she is still looking for sponsorships for the concert itself in the form of a donation or advertisement in the program for the event. She said sponsorships are available at several levels: Baritone - $100; Bass - $250; Tenor - $375 and Lead - $500.

Advertisements for the program are also available with an eighth of a page ad at $15; quarter page ad at $20; half page ad at $30 and a full page ad for $50.

Other sponsors for the event include UPMC Children's Hospital, Hancock County Savings Bank, Weirton Area Ambulance and Rescue Squad Inc., C. Hackett, Weirton Elks, Fireman's Friend Extinguisher System & Supply and S&S Performance Auto.

Sponsorships or ads can be sent to 1910 6th St., New Cumberland, WV 26047 and for more information contact Ginier at 304-479-2316.
