CADIZ - The Harrison County commissioners met Wednesday with L. Scott Blackburn, director of the Harrison County Department of Job and Family Services, and following a brief executive session announced two new job postings for the department.
The vacancies will fill positions where employees have retired, and applications will be accepted at the DJFS offices until noon on May 11. The positions are for an eligibility referral specialist and maintenance worker.
Harrison County Treasurer Vicki Sefsick questioned the director about the openings being made available to employees on the lay-off list.
"We have checked into that, and in this instance those employees do not have to be called back," Blackburn responded. "However, as always, we welcome them to apply."
Blackburn also announced DJFS will be handling the application process for the soon-to-open Dollar General store being constructed in Cadiz. Interested applicants can fill out forms for the job openings from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the Harrison County offices, 520 N. Main St.
Blackburn stated he had not been given a date for the opening of the new store and asked that anyone with questions call the office at (740) 942-2171 for information.
Commissioners also appropriated $48,000 into the county recorder's office at the request of Tracy Boyer. The county recorder was asked by Commissioner Don Bethel to clarify the origin of the money appropriated.
"All of these monies are donations we have received from gas and oil companies to pay for additional employee hours," Boyer responded. "This is not costing the taxpayers anything."
The board also approved a pass through of $183,000 collected by the county for the state of Ohio's housing trust fund, which will be forwarded to the state by the recorder's office.
In other business:
The board approved a request from Doug Crabtree representing the county engineer's office to reappoint Dale Norris to the Ohio Public Works District 14 Integrating Committee.
Crabtree told the board the county had began mowing alongside county highways and is in the process of patching potholes.
