WEIRTON - The old LaPosta property on Three Springs Drive is being prepared for the construction of a new, larger Sheetz store.
The current Sheetz located on Penco Road in Weirton was built in 1997 and is about 4,200 square feet, but at the old LaPosta site, the store will be able to expand to about 6,500 square feet.
Representatives of the company appeared before the Zoning Board of Appeals in February to make several requests for variances on the amount of signage available to the company and the widening of one entranceway to get trucks in and out. The new location scoped out for the project is the old LaPosta dealership on Three Springs Drive, which is currently being demolished.

Chief Code Official Rod Rosnick said the company received the demolition permits and have all the variances needed to move forward with construction. He said the construction plans are under review at this time.
"We expect to grant approval for the construction plans either this week or next," he said.
According to plans, the new Sheetz is expected to include inside seating, outdoor seating, larger restrooms and additional pumps along with three public entrances to the store.
