LANGELOTH, Pa. - After a year hiatus, the Burgettstown Men's Fastpitch Softball League will return, with opening day Sunday featuring a 4:30 p.m. game between Burgettstown Auto Parts and Maxwells's Big Bucks, immediately followed by a game between T's Locker Room and Bobby D's.
The league's four teams will play games at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sundays, 7 p.m. Tuesdays and 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Fridays at the Gus Barbush Memorial Field. The league will use only wooden bats.
Maxwell's Big Bucks were the 2010 champions and return to defend their title. They will again be led in the pitching circle by "Big" John Schilinski, who will share duties with John Midler. The core of the team returns in CJ Smitsky, Chuch Ivanac, Luke Schilinski, Dave Midler, Jeff Havelka and Bryan Vallina. The have also added Bob Siegworth, formerly of the Burgettstown Auto Parts team.
Burgettstown Auto Parts, the 2010 runner-up, returns with Mike Schaedel and Andy Rommes on the mound. Their core of Butch Maga, Billy Deer, Ron Waters and Bryan Pavan and Tyler Pavan will look to regain the cup from Maxwell's.
Luke Snatchko's team, Bobby D's, will try to improve on a dismal 2010 season with a mix of young and old. Tim Zelenko returns to the mound, and he will be assisted by Spud Matalik. Veterans Kip Kuzior, Joe Wiles, Nick Tasz, Dave Robinson and Anthony Tagliaferra will try to help youngsters Michael LaRocka, Brian Resnick, Kurt Kowalski and Austin McDermit learn the game. Cole Heckman looks to shore the middle infield at shortstop, and Brendan Bongiorni and Tim Szyminski look to supply power at the plate.
T's Locker Room's combination of new players will need to gel early to compete. They will be led on the mound by Gary Pcsolinski and Dave Walchesky. Stu Bombani, Dave Balmer, Bobby Dillon, Eric Kovach and Spic Riggans look to provide leadership to some new players who haven't played fastpitch before.
