WEIRTON - This year's Greater Weirton Senior Center Fun Run appears to have been a success.
According to organizers, the event, which is in its seventh year, saw 68 participants this year, spending their afternoon riding around the Tri-State Area and raising money for the local facility.
"Everything looks good," Senior Center Coordinator Shari Dami said. "We got a nice crowd."
The Fun Run is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the senior center, which has been facing some financial difficulty in recent months.
Proceeds from the event go toward helping with the operational costs of the senior center, located on Main Street in Weirton.
"It's for our seniors," Dami said.

Setting off just after noon, the riders, led by Jim Sheehan of Pittsburgh, traveled throughout the Tri-State area with stops at the White Stallion in Chester, the Bullpen in Avella and Mustang Sally's in Follansbee.
The day concluded back at the senior center with a dinner for participants and other supporters.
Food for the dinner was donated by Wyngate Senior Living Community, with beverages provided by Wine and Beverage Merchants and Waldorf Distributing. Bottled water was donated by the Reinard family in memory of Helen Carpini, who had served on the senior center's board.
