FOLLANSBEE - A Follansbee couple were elected to state and district offices at the West Virginia Democratic Party's state convention June 9 in Charleston.
John Martino was elected associate chairman of the state party and his wife, Marge, was elected chairman of the party's 1st Congressional District at the event, which was attended by more than 1,100 people, said Derek Scarbro, the party's executive director.
The party also re-elected Larry Puccio and Belinda Biafore as chairman and vice chairman, adopted a platform and elected delegates to the national convention.
John has chaired the Brooke County Democratic Party since 1977 and he and Marge have served on its executive committee for more than 25 years as well as representing the party as county, district and state delegates to the Democratic convention for many years.
Marge has been a member of the Brooke County Federation of Democratic Women for 34 years, served three terms as president and, as membership chairman, helped to more than triple its membership.
Both have been named Brooke County Democrat of the Year for their involvement in the party, including organizing local meet the candidate nights
