STEUBENVILLE - Post 33 split a doubleheader with Wheeling Post 1 Sunday at Vaccaro Field in a tale of two games.
Wheeling took a 7-0 lead in the first game and then scored three times in the top of the eighth inning for a 15-12 win. Steubenville came back to make the most of three hits in winning the second outing, 7-6.
Post 1 had a 12-8 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning, when Post 33 scored four times to take it into extra innings.
Brooke graduate Steven Jeffries led the winners with two doubles, two singles and an RBI. Nick Breen added a triple, single and two RBIs.
Brenton Colabella and Alex Young each knocked in two runs for Post 33. Steve Mihalyo added a triple, single and RBI, Bryan Pierro two singles and an RBI and JoJo Pierro a double, single and RBI.
Steubenville scored four times in the second and three more in the fifth for a 7-1 lead and had to hold on in the top of the seventh as Post 1 scored four times to make it 7-6 in Game 2. Justin Corsi earned the win.
Bryan Pierro, Young and Colabella each had a single and RBI for Steubenville, now 20-14.
