CICONE, Alfred R. "Al" Sr., 84, passed away July 5 2012, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Alfred was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Steubenville. The son of the late Antonio and Almerinda DiFonzo Cicone.
He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine Collier and Leah Caputo. A lifelong resident of Steubenville, Al was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1945. After he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, Al attended the College of Steubenville. A carpenter by trade, Al worked 25 years for Carlo Ciancetta & Sons Construction, and then worked 25 years out of the Local 186 Union Hall, of which he was a 50-year member. Al was also a long time member of the Polish Athletic Club, the American Legion Post 33, and the former St. Anthony's Parish now Triumph of the Cross.
Alfred is survived by his sweetheart and loving wife of 61 years, Nancy Harden Cicone, and his six children: sons Alfred "Al" Jr. (Paula) of Dublin, and Ronald (Georgette) of Valencia, CA; and daughters Merinda "Rinnie" (John) Meadows, Jean (Tony) DiPietro, Joan (Greg) Humienny, and Julie (Joe) Biasi, all of Steubenville. Alfred is also survived by his brother, Benjamin (Philomena) Cicone of Mingo Junction. Alfred also leaves behind nine grandchildren, whom he thought the world of: Autumn (Jon) Diligente of Brunswick Hills, OH; Alfie and Julian Cicone of Dublin, OH; and John Michael Humienny, Alex and Toni Jean DiPietro, and Carmela, Isabella, and Carlo Biasi, all of Steubenville. He loved and cherished his great-grandchildren, Santino and Liliana Diligente of Brunswick Hills, OH. In addition, Al greatly treasured his cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Al was a quiet, humble man who worked hard and always put his family first. He touched the lives of all of his family and friends, and he will be remembered for his big heart, sharp mind, and his sense of humor. Al also loved Notre Dame and Steelers football, gardening, fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, and watching and quoting episodes of Seinfeld "not that there's anything wrong with that."
Calling hours are Sunday 4-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Tom Nau, celebrant. Burial at Union Cemetery. There will be a vigil service at 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, whose compassionate and supportive staff ensured Alfred was always well cared for.
