WASIK, IRENE P., 87, of Weirton, WV, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012, at the Weirton Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Weirton, WV. the daughter of the late Urban and Mary Mazur Borek.
Irene, meaning peace, was preceded in death by her husband, John Wasik, who passed away Oct. 29, 1995, and her son, Gary Wasik, who passed away May 19, 2012, brothers; Edward, Stanislaus, Theodore, sisters; Helen Vasu, and Josephine Borek.
After graduating Weir High School in 1942, Irene worked for MIAD (Miami Air Depot). During World War II, she worked for Weirton Steel in the carton department, and then at Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company as a telephone operator. The largest part of her years were as a homemaker with a great love for family, animals, cooking, and gardening. She was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church for 50 years.
Surviving are her daughter, Alicia Wasik of Weirton, WV, brother; Matthew Borek of Salinas, CA. Irene will be sadly missed by her daughter, her family, and her beloved pets.
Family and friends will be received at the Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV, on Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tim Conrad and Reverend Betty Shaw presiding. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
