'Unity in the Community' event scheduled for Sunday

WEIRTON - The Christ the King Family Worship Center will sponsor a "Unity in the Community" event from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Weirton Events Center located at the former Cove School site.

Free food, inflatables, face-painting and games will be available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Christian rapper Royalty, Strongcord Music Inc. and church members will provide music entertainment from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

Hancock Democrats to meet

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Hancock County Courthouse's third floor judges' chambers.

Craft fair and treasure sale set

WELLSBURG - Members of the Community of Christ Church Women's Department will hold a craft fair and home treasure sale at 8 a.m. Aug. 4 at the Dollar General Market at state Route 2 and Bruin Drive.

There will be a variety of holiday decorations and other household items and refreshments for sale.

Friends picnic announced

WEIRTON - The Friends of Madonna Picnic will be held from noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds on Kings Creek.

Entertainment will include: from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., George Hvizdak; 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Highly Improvable; 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Baq II Baq with Bill Holt; and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., disc jockey Jay Shepherd.

There will be a drawing at 9 p.m., and tickets will be available at the picnic.

Safe driving class offered

WEIRTON -An AARP safe driving class will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3598 Pennsylvania Ave.

Taught by Ralph Cox, the two-day class is geared toward older adults who may or may not be experiencing diminished vision, hearing and reaction time, all common to the aging process. Most insurance agencies offer a discount to those who have completed it.

The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for for non-members.

It covers materials and must be paid in advance.
