AFTANAS, Stanley, 85, of Warwood, WV, formerly of Follansbee, WV, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Wheeling Medical Park, Wheeling, WV.
Stanley was born on March 30, 1927, in Weirton, WV. He was the son of the late John Sr. and Catherine (Wydra) Aftanas.
Stanley served in the United States Air Force as a Stand Sergeant during the Korean War. He worked as an operator at the Pillsbury Mills Company, Wellsburg, for 33 years. Stanley was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Follansbee, WV.
In addition to her parents, Stanley was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Joe, and Walter Aftanas; and two sisters, Mary Granato and Helen Zdybicki.
Stanley is survived by a loving sister, Sophie Gima of Follansbee, WV; two devoted brothers, John Jr. (Frances) Aftanas of Fort Myers, FL, and Frank Aftanas of Wellsburg, WV; two caring sisters-in-law, Helen Aftanas of Wellsburg, WV, and Rosetta Aftanas, Weirton, WV; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, July 29, 2012, from 3-7 p.m. and again on Monday, July 30, 2012, from 9 a.m. until time of the Liturgy of the Word at 10 a.m. at the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main St., Follansbee, WV, with Father Pete Giannamore presiding.
Interment with full military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee.
