To the editor:
Why does Mitt Romney have millions of dollars deposited in off-shore tax havens? What loopholes has he used to hide all that money? Is it class warfare for voters to ask for full disclosure of his business practices so they can make an informed decision on Election Day? Why has he vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act when he installed the same health care program in his state when he was governor? Why does he want to privatize Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and federal funding for education? What would he do with the money that now funds all these programs? Why does he believe that corporations should have the same rights as people? Why does he believe the auto industry should have gone bankrupt? Are these the things he'd do to create jobs?
Is this his version of trickle-down economics?
I don't know about you, but I am sick of being trickled on.
Some believe the president hasn't done anything positive since being put in office. Well, try this on for size - He saved 1.4 million jobs by loans made to the auto industry, not bailouts like the banks got, but loans that have been paid back to the American people with $1.2 billion in interest. He got Osama bin Laden and decreased the chance of another 9-11. He signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that ensures that women got the same pay as men for doing the same job. He ended insurance company abuses by prohibiting the denial of coverage because of pre-existing conditions. He's helped the private sector create 3 million jobs during 28 straight months of job growth. He's made a college education accessible to thousands of students by ending billions of dollars in subsidies to banks, and used that money for Pell Grants. He also kept student loan interest from doubling. He also passed tax cuts for working people and put $760 into their paychecks. And, he's still working to create construction jobs to rebuild roads, bridges and other infrastructure, signing that law on July 5. It will create another 1.2 million construction jobs.
How's that for doing nothing?
If you weren't aware of these accomplishments, you're getting your news from biased sources, or you just don't care. As they say, ignorance is bliss.
We need to judge those who lead this country by past performances, not empty promises. If they have a shady past and no concrete agenda for the future, they cannot be trusted and they're dishonest in their criticism of the facts. You may have heard it before, and when it comes to politics it's worth remembering -Who do you believe, the candidate running for office or your lying eyes? Take a look at the candidate who hides his wealth and has no real plan to do anything but then throws stones at the guy who's rebuilding the foundation of the economy.
We need to go forward, not backward.
