To the editor:
Why are the commissioners thinking about buying Ohio Valley Towers when the county should be using the former Jefferson County Children Services Building?
Since children services was forced to move downtown to the Job and Family Services Building, its vacated building has stood virtually empty. It's in an excellent location off John Scott Highway near the Fort Steuben Mall, should be in good condition, is laid out to accommodate several separate agencies and has adequate parking. Best of all, the county already owns it.
Several months ago, I mentioned this building to one of the commissioners. He said he would call me to discuss it. I'm still waiting on that call. It seems to me that the residents of Jefferson County deserve an explanation as to why the commissioners would want to spend so much money on the towers when we have a good, free alternative.
