To the Editor,
In Proverbs 3:3, it is written, "Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart." Last weekend, the Upper Ohio Valley community demonstrated those same treasured attributes of loyalty and faithfulness at the 30th Italian Heritage Festival in Wheeling.
As festival chairman, I extend the humblest and deepest thanks of our volunteer board members to all from far and wide who traveled to the Heritage Port to patronize and enjoy the Italian Festival once again. The weather cooperated greatly, and the faces of happy vendors on Sunday evening offered the real possibility that the festival will realize profits for the Italian Festival Scholarship Trust Fund, which has offered annual cash awards to 14 Upper Ohio Valley college students since 1987, which now stands at more than $275,000.
"Mille grazie," or "a thousand thanks," to our sponsors, selfless volunteers, associate board members and youth board members who generously donated their precious time and money to make the 30 Italian Festival a success. Another job well done.
We begin again next week to plan the 31st Italian festival that will take place on July 26-28, 2013. And we look forward to the continued loyalty and wonderful company of our good neighbors next July at the Ohio Valley's biggest and best block party.
