Post 86 event a success

August 4, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

To the editor:

I would like to thank everyone involved in making our fifth-annual gold scramble a success. This year's event was held the Turkana Golf Course on July 18. Five years ago, Ron Ferrell and Buzzy Kalivoda began this scramble to raise funds for the many civic and charitable activities performed by Post 86 throughout the year. After that first tournament, Ron died. Now, our event honors his memory.

"Mr. Food" Ferrell served as general manager of our American Legion baseball team for many years and continues to be missed by all who knew him.

We wish to thank the staff at Turkana for hosting our event. And a special thanks to Buzzy, the scramble committee, the cooks, bartenders, dinner servers and the Post 86 Women's Auxiliary.

We want to thank the individuals and businesses that donated monetarily as well as with door prizes. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated: Abdalla's Tavern; Anderson-Campbell Insurance Agency; Athena's of Weirton; Auto Zone; B&W Tire; Baby Boyz BBQ; Bella C's Pizza, Wellsville; Boathouse Restaurant; Car-Laine's Florist; Cassie's Unisex Styling Center; Cattrell Cos.
