MELLOTT, Victor V. Jr., 70, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Canton, OH.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1941, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Victor Vernon and Oma (Lashley) Mellott.
Vic was a 1959 graduate of Mingo High School, in Mingo Junction, Ohio. He was a member of Local 1948, Youngstown, Ohio, and lived in Canal Fulton, Ohio. He had been a member of the UTU and predecessor unions since May 1, 1966. He began his rail career as a clerk in 1959 in Mingo Junction, Ohio. He was promoted to a yardmaster on the Pennsylvania Railroad on May 1, 1966. Victor became interested in the affairs of his union and was elected local chairman in 1981. He was elected Vice President in 1984 of his Conrail 76 local. He became General Chairman and delegate in 1988. Vic worked as a clerk and yardmaster for the Pennsylvania, Penn Central, Conrail and Norfolk Southern Railroads for 42 years at 12 different locations. Vic worked as a Vice President, Local Chairman, delegate and General Chairman for his local which covered from New York to East Saint Louis, for 650 Amtrak-Conrail yardmaster. Vic retired in 2002. Vic was a member in good standing of the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory of the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Steubenville. He is a member of Steubenville Masonic Lodge 45 in Steubenville, a member of the Army Reserve in Weirton, West Virginia and a member of Rivertree Christian Church in Massillon, Ohio.

On Sept. 11, 1965, he married Paula Rauch, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Carla (John) Yutzy of Canal Fulton, Ohio, and Dawn (Troy) Berry of Findlay, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jacob Dexter of Canal Fulton and Nicholas and Madison Berry of Findlay, Ohio; and his brother, Fred (Johnnie) Mellott of Houston, Texas.
Vic enjoys watching sports of all kinds, fishing and camping with the family and being with their grandchildren.
Friends may call at Hoff-Shorac Funeral Home, Mingo Junction, on Sunday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m., where a service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kenn Sickle officiating. Masonic services at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial at Oakland Cemetery.
