To the editor:
During a severe storm on July 18, I had the misfortune of being on the ninth floor of the Chase Bank Building at the office of Dr. Michael Giannamore when the power went off.
The nurses told us the lower floors were filling with smoke and we had to evacuate immediately. Being a cardiopulmonary patient with severe breathing limitations and constant oxygen treatment, going down nine flights of stairs was extremely difficult. Due to the kindness of others, I made it safely with no consequence. Drs. Giannamore and John Figel stayed with my husband and me during our descent, and the Riverside nurses, city firefighters and the staffs at Market Street Pharmacy and attorney Costa Mastros all were very concerned about me.
A very special thanks to my husband, who waited patiently when I had to stop for breaks. They were genuinely concerned for my safety, and it was heartwarming to know that such kindness still exists. Thank you all for your compassion and for restoring my faith in humanity.
