WEIRTON - It's the quest for bragging rights and personal bests when area runners, walkers and casual enthusiasts take part in the upcoming Marland Heights 5K Classic and community races.
On Aug. 17, the annual Marland Heights 5K Classic will return as the premier community health and fitness event hosted by the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation. It's geared for the entire family with races for people of all ages.
Along with the 5K race along the city streets on Marland Heights, the event also will feature a 2-mile fitness walk, youth races for children age 12 and under, along with the High School 5K Challenge with a special team award presented to those participants accumulating the most race points based on their finishes.
The Youth Fun Run will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the 5K starting at 7 p.m. and the Fitness Walk at 7:15 p.m.
Following the race there will be a special awards ceremony and cookout for all participants and event sponsors, organizers confirmed.
The cost to enter is $14 in advance for the adult races and $18 on race day. There will be a $2 fee for youngsters participating in the Youth Fun Run.
Race T-shirts will be given to the first 100 participants for the 5K Race and 2-Mile Fitness Walk.
