Economic development in Jefferson County received a boost on Thursday when the names of the nine members of the Jefferson County Port Authority board were announced.
Four of the appointments to the nine-member panel came from the Jefferson County commissioners, four came from Steubenville City Council and one was made by the Jefferson County Regional Planning Commission.
The nine will oversee an economic development tool that can use imminent domain powers, issue bonds and generate money through assessments for infrastructure for development projects.
It's another example of the city and county working together for the benefit of our region, as Mayor Domenick Mucci and county Commissioner Tom Gentile pointed out after the panel was introduced on the steps of the courthouse.
Members of the authority include city appointees Debbie Venci, Mark Teramana, Robert D'Anniballe and Edward Florak; county appointees Geary Bates, Gary Cain, Jason Zatta and Mike Thomas; and planning commission appointee Greg Nemeth.
They represent a good cross section of leaders from the business, education and professional segments of our community. Their records as proven leaders are important assets that will serve the authority well, especially with the anticipated growth in economic activity as the oil and gas industry continues to expand in our area.
