A community tradition is taking place this Friday in Weirton, and we hope to see many of our residents there.
The annual Marland Heights 5K Classic is returning, hosted, as always, by the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation.
Beginning and ending at Marland Heights Park, the yearly event is more than just a race for those running enthusiasts from our area. Over the years it has truly become a community activity where residents of all ages can take part.
In addition to the 5K Classic, which follows a course through parts of the streets of Marland Heights, there also will be a two-mile fitness walk and a variety of youth and specialty races. This way, there is something for the entire family.
In addition, high school students taking part will be competing for school pride as the high school accumulating the most points will receive a special award.
Participants, sponsors and their families and friends also will be able to enjoy a cookout at the park after all the races are completed.
There is still time to register for this weekend's races. We encourage everyone who is interested in running or simply standing along the route and cheering on the participants to be there.
