Big Red preview Thursday

STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red football team will take on Wheeling Park Thursday at Harding Stadium in the final preview before the season opens Aug. 23.

The high school teams will play at 6 p.m. with the junior high teams beginning at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students.

Connor, staff honored

MINGO JUNCTION - The Mingo Business Association recognized Indian Creek football coach Andrew Connor and his staff for leading the Ohio squad to a 19-7 victory in the 33rd-annual Penn-Ohio Stateline Classic at Springfield High School in June. It was Ohio's first victory since 2008.

Indian Creek Principal Steve Cowser, Superintendent John Rocchi and retired superintendent Jene Watkins all congratulated Connor and his staff on the win. MBA President Bob Smith presented a poster to Connor commemorating the achievement.

Bears selling tickets

NEW MANCHESTER - Tickets for Oak Glen's 8:30 p.m. football opener Aug. 23 against Edison in the OVAC McDonald's Kickoff Classic at Harding Stadium will be available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Wednesday at the high school main office.

Tickets will also be available at Citizens Drug Store in Chester or New Cumberland RX Center. Cost is $10 per ticket and is good for admittance to both games. The 6 p.m. opener is Big Red against D.C. Woodrow Wilson.

Boosters selling parking passes

WEIRTON - The Weir Football Boosters are offering season parking passes for $30 and are good for all six varsity football home games. Season parking ticket holders will have special parking close to the stadium.

Panthers top Big Red

RAYLAND - The Buckeye Local golf team defeated Steubenville Big Red Monday at Bec-wood Golf Course.

The Panthers shot 190 as Kyle Sutphin shot 45, Clint Henry 46, Bo Walker 48 and Rickey Sempkowski 51.

Big Red's Kasey Peterson was the medalist with a 44. Jacob McKitrick shot 49 and Mason Heatherington 62. Four players are required for a match.

Creek selling tickets, passes

WINTERSVILLE - Indian Creek football season tickets and student athletic passes are on sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the athletic department through Friday. Season tickets are $25 per seat. The student athletic pass is $35.

Last tourney to be held

CHESTER - The final Ohio River Catfish Tournament of the year, sponsored by the Chester and Newell Sportsmen Club, will be held from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Entry fee is $10 per person.

Hunter education course offered

TORONTO - The Toronto Rod and Gun Club will host a hunter education course from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 25. It is open to the public. Participants must register online at the Ohio DNR website by Wednesday.

The club will also offer a young trap shooter program from 5 p.m. to dark every Wednesday. All participants must be accompanied by an adult.
